I just got my xbox 360 today, and the first thing i did was of course plug in my Gears of war to play it, however, my xbox 360 seems to freeze from time to time while i'm playing the game. I went on xbox live, updated my xbox 360, and downloaded the halo 3 beta with crackdown. However, when i was playing the halo 3 beta, my xbxo 360 freezed mid game both times i attempted to play. Is there anyway i can decrease the amounts of freezing, or am i doing anything wrong? My xbox 360 is a premium 20gb xbox 360, which my friend sold to me yesterday. He bought the xbox 360 3 months ago.help with 360 freezing problem?

make sure it has enough ventilation. the 360 does not like heat.
ventilation? ok, i shall try it.and my friend is a classmate i've known for quite some time, so i dont' think he'll cheat me or anything
My 360 did this and tech support asked me to do all this crap that I'd already done: Unplug and plug it back in Perform maintenence on the HDD Play games without the hard drive in etc etc. Turns out hat most 360s that freeze often have faulty DVD drives, I sent it away and two weeks later I got it back with a different DVD drive installed. Have never had it freeze since but I get the occasional 'disc read error' (but i do use it vertically and discs are at least a year old:S). Anyway, u might wanna do that if its still under warranty, if not then find a site that sells new 360 DVD drives. Most modding websites have these. You'll have to go to work on ur 360 yourself though.
Hope this helps :S
well i think its because of the halo 3 beta. bungie said that they will start uploading data from your xbox about the beta. my 360 kinda sorta freezes for like 2 min while crackdown is loading. but after that its fine.
My Elite has also done this from time to time so I use a 12'' osilating fan pointed from the right side with air circulating below and on top of the console. The console is propped up off the floor with four spray cans so the air can circulate. I have found that the bottom of the X360 can get just as hot as the top. I know this may look or sound strange but it works and the X360 stays nice and cold.
