get the Elite if you have the money. Worth it for Black, True HD (1080p hdmi cable), and 100gb more memory. Otherwise, just stay away from the core.type of box

Yes it can work on any tv, but to experience hd or 1080p you need a HDTV that supports hdmi.
If I were you I would go with the elite its black and has a much bigger hd than the premium. Unless of coarse you prefer white
